On my way to work today, I saw things that took “beyond normal” confidence. Normal people call it, overconfidence. I call it, “Viconfidence” (The VicO kind of confidence). So on the street I have to pass to get to the bridge where I take a bus to work, I saw two men passing. People pass there all the time and it’s absolutely normal but today was different. One of the men called out, “Black beauty, I love your lips.” I was just weak. He had mind o, so he couldn’t just tell himself in his head and pass like a sane man that I thought him to be. He went on about other parts of my body, chai,,, I felt violated. I just blocked him out and kept walking only to see another man shouting at two endowed ladies in front of me. I would have said the guy was drunk but it was too early to be drunk na. Anyway, this guy was like…”Ahhhhhhhh… Ukwu!!! Double portion!!!” Next thing, Mr man starts singing on top of his voice, “I don find my fine fine fine bobo” *in Wizkid’s tune” (Really, Bobo?????!!!!). It felt like he could hear my thoughts and he quickly switched to ” I don find my Fine fine lady…ahn… She be my fine fine lady ahnnn” That was the only line he knew o.
I just ignored all the drama and got into a bus and got to my office area. I stopped at my “akara” woman joint to buy yam and akara that I was craving so badly. The girl picked up a fork from their table to serve the guy behind me yam and he was like, “Won’t you clean it?” and the woman asked “Why? Is it dirty?” I swiped my finger across the edge of the table whee the fork was and showed her the dust and the woman just exploded,
“Can’t you see there is harmattan, it’s dusty”
“That’s why we are saying you should clean the fork.” The boy calmly replied.
“Is it that you don’t want to buy akara ehn? WHo are you? Why should I clean the fork because I am serving you, please fuck off!” She erupted.
It just killed me. It did not reach to vex like this na. I think she was on her period because, nothing else can explain the emotional eruption.. She even looked like she will cry. I made a decision never to buy akara there again because the woman doesn’t care about my health or satisfying me. I am also convinvced that the other guy would never go there again.
Whether you are selling akara, a product, service or the CEO of an SME your customer is king. It is also beyond your product, it is about satisfying your persona/customer beyond just your services. It’s the extraas that buy their loyalty. I remember when a keke man came to the middle of the road to stop the moving vehicles, so I could cross the road. I paid him 100 naira for 50 naira waka. Oh well, think beyond just your sale. Think about your customer, they are king.
By the way, I met a keke man today on my way back from work (this is not the one that stopped vehicles for me to cross o). This one says he’s from Uganda. He is really funny. I asked him why he left Uganda and the Mr wanted to set P or maybe it’s a content marketing strategy to convert me from a stranger to a lead. He sha said, I should give him my number, so he would set alarm to call me and gist me. He says he wants to be a President but he would start as a governor of Lagos state. He said I am his girlfriend and I should contribute to his political ministry. Oh well… There is no specific time to dream big. Dream Big now. It’s possible!!!
